📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
This verse is one of the most loved in Scripture because it speaks directly to moments of weakness, weariness, and waiting. The prophet Isaiah wrote these words to a discouraged people who felt forgotten by God. Israel had been through exile and disappointment, but God reminded them that He never grows tired or loses strength.
Just a few verses earlier, Isaiah wrote, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” (Isaiah 40:28–29). God does not just have strength — He gives it freely to those who trust Him.
The word “wait” in this verse means more than simply being patient. In Hebrew, it means to look to, to hope in, or to trust with expectation. Waiting on God is active faith. It means choosing to trust Him even when you cannot see what He is doing. Psalm 27:14 gives the same reminder: “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.”
The image of the eagle is one of Scripture’s most powerful pictures. Eagles do not fight against the wind; they use it to rise higher. In the same way, when we trust God, even the storms of life can lift us instead of break us. Exodus 19:4 echoes this truth: “I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.” God carries His people, even when they have no strength left to carry themselves.
Isaiah also says, “They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” God gives strength for every season. Some days we feel ready to run with purpose and energy. Other days we can only walk forward slowly in faith. God gives strength for both. His power never runs out, and His presence never fades.
This verse is worth meditating on because it captures the heart of faith. True strength does not come from effort or willpower. It comes from depending on God. Philippians 4:13 reflects the same truth: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
When you wait on the Lord, He renews you. When you trust Him, He lifts you higher. And when you walk with Him, He gives you endurance that never runs out.
