🧠 Devotion

When the Bible talks about seasons, it is not just about the weather. A season is a God-ordained period where He works in a specific way in our lives. Just as the earth needs winter, spring, summer, and fall, we need seasons of waiting, testing, growth, pruning, and blessing.

Ecclesiastes 3 makes this clear: “a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.” In other words, God assigns purpose to every season. None of them are random.

Think about Joseph. He had a season of betrayal and slavery before his season of leadership in Egypt (Genesis 37–41). Without the hard years, he would not have been prepared to save nations during famine. David was anointed king, yet he went through years of hiding in caves while Saul hunted him (1 Samuel 22–24). That season shaped him into a man after God’s own heart. Ruth endured grief and poverty before stepping into blessing through Boaz (Ruth 1–4). Even Jesus went through a wilderness season of testing before His ministry (Matthew 4:1–11). Every story shows the same pattern: hard seasons came before blessed ones, and both were necessary.

Why does God give us these seasons? For the same reason the earth has them. Winter gives the soil rest. Spring brings new growth. Summer ripens the fruit. Fall produces harvest but also requires letting go. Without one, the others do not work. The same is true spiritually. Waiting seasons build patience. Testing seasons refine our faith. Growth seasons develop endurance. Harvest seasons show us God’s faithfulness. Each one is essential to God’s plan for us.

When you clearly feel you are in a season, that should remind you God is working directly in your life. He is not absent. If you sense waiting, it is because He is preparing. If you sense pruning, it is because He is shaping. If you sense blessing, it is because He is fulfilling promises. Recognizing a season is proof that His hand is guiding you.

And here is the deeper truth: all of life is itself just one short season compared to eternity. James 4:14 says, “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” Our time on earth is brief, but heaven is the eternal season, the longest and best one, where there will be no more mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4). Every season here, both hard and blessed, is preparing us for the season that never ends.

So do not despise the season you are in. God is intentional. Seasons change, but He does not. And every one of them is shaping you for His greater purpose and for eternity with Him.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by ACTS)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

  1. Adoration: God, You are the Maker of every season, and You are faithful in them all.

  2. Confession: Forgive me when I revisit the season I’m in or doubt your purpose in it.

  3. Thanksgiving: Thank you that every season has meaning and none of them are wasted with You.

  4. Supplication: Give me patience in waiting, strength in testing, gratitude in blessing, and hope as I look to the eternal season in heaven with You.

In Jesus name, Amen
