📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion

The devil is real. He is not a symbol or a story. He was once one of God’s angels, created to reflect His glory. He lived in the presence of God, surrounded by beauty and light. But pride entered his heart.

Isaiah 14 describes him saying, “I will ascend to heaven. I will raise my throne above the stars of God. I will make myself like the Most High.” He wanted the worship that belonged to God alone. That pride led to his fall. Ezekiel 28 paints a picture of a being who was blameless and perfect in beauty until wickedness was found in him. He became proud because of his splendor.

Satan was not forced to rebel. He chose to. His sin began in his heart. He wanted power without obedience and glory without humility. God loved him, but He will not share His throne with anyone. That rebellion was the first sin. Pride turned an angel into an enemy.

Revelation 12 describes what happened next. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, that ancient serpent called the devil or Satan, who leads the world astray. Satan and his followers were defeated and thrown down to earth. What began as pride became open rebellion.

From that moment, Satan’s goal was to oppose God by attacking what God loves most, His people. In Genesis 3, he appears in the garden and tempts Eve to doubt God’s word. His first question was “Did God really say?” That same lie still works today. He tries to twist what God says, plant doubt, and make sin look harmless.

Jesus called him “a liar and the father of lies” in John 8:44. Peter warns that “your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” His motive has never changed. He wants to deceive, destroy, and lead people away from truth.

But Satan’s power is limited. He is not equal to God. He can tempt, but he cannot control. He can accuse, but he cannot condemn. His fate was sealed at the cross.

Colossians 2:15 says Jesus disarmed the powers and authorities and triumphed over them by the cross. The victory of Jesus broke the power of sin and death. James 4:7 says to submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee. Those who belong to Christ already live in victory.

Revelation 20:10 gives the final word. The devil who deceived the nations will be thrown into the lake of fire and will be tormented forever. His story ends in defeat.

The devil chose pride. Jesus chose humility. One fell from heaven. The other came from heaven to save. The devil is real, but he is defeated.

Fun Facts

• The name Lucifer means “light bearer,” describing his beauty before pride corrupted him.

• The word Satan means “adversary,” showing his role as the enemy of God.

• A third of the angels joined his rebellion according to Revelation 12.

• Satan’s fall began with pride, but Jesus’ victory began with humility.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by ACTS)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

Adoration: Jesus, You are the victorious Son of God. No darkness can stand against You.

Confession: Forgive me for the times I’ve believed lies instead of Your truth.

Thanksgiving: Thank you for defeating sin and Satan through the cross. Thank You for the freedom of peace I have in you.

Supplication: Protect me from the enemy’s lies. Fill me with courage and remind me daily that You’ve already won.

In Jesus name, Amen
