Good Morning. The Bible is full of famous stories — David and Goliath, Noah’s Ark, Daniel and the lions’ den — but there are also lesser-known stories are overlooked. One story that’s too over looked is this one.

📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion

Mephibosheth wasn’t a name anyone expected to be remembered. He was the grandson of King Saul and the son of Jonathan, David’s best friend. By the time his story is told in 2 Samuel 9, his life looked hopeless.

When Mephibosheth was a little boy, his family’s world collapsed. His grandfather Saul died in battle. His father Jonathan died too. In the chaos, his nurse tried to carry him to safety but dropped him. From that day forward, Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet. He grew up without power, without family protection, and with a disability that left him dependent on others. In a world where kings killed off the old dynasty to secure their throne, Mephibosheth probably lived every day waiting for the moment someone would come to finish him off.

But then came the day King David asked a surprising question: “Is there anyone still left of Saul’s family to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

That one question changed everything. David wasn’t looking for enemies to crush. He was looking for someone to bless. When he learned about Mephibosheth, he sent for him.

Imagine the fear Mephibosheth must have felt. Crippled, powerless, standing before the king he thought would destroy him. He bowed low and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” In his mind, he was worthless.

But David’s response was stunning. He told Mephibosheth not to be afraid. He restored all the land that once belonged to his grandfather Saul. And then he said something even greater: “You will always eat at my table.”

This is more than a story about an ancient king and a forgotten grandson. It is a picture of what God does for us. Like Mephibosheth, we are broken. We have no way to earn our place at God’s table. Left on our own, we’d only expect rejection. Yet because of God’s covenant of love, fulfilled through Jesus, He calls us close. He doesn’t just forgive us — He gives us a permanent seat at His table as His children.

The lesson is clear: God’s grace seeks out the forgotten and brings them home. He doesn’t measure your worth by what you can offer. He doesn’t define you by your past, your failures, or your weaknesses. He defines you by His promise.

Mephibosheth thought he was a “dead dog.” But the king called him a son. You may feel unworthy, unseen, or too broken for God to care about. But the King of Kings is looking for you — not to cast you out, but to bring you in.

Grace at the King’s table is for you. And once God has given you that seat, nothing can take it away.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by ACTS)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

Adoration: Lord Jesus, You are full of mercy and kindness.

Confession: I confess I often see myself as unworthy, like Mephibosheth, instead of believing Your Truth.

Thanksgiving: Thank you for giving me a seat at Your table and calling me Your child.

Supplication: Help me live each day with confidence in Your grace and extend that kindness to others.

In Jesus name, Amen
