đź“– Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion

Life is full of things to chase after. People run after money, success, security, friendships, health, and comfort. Many believe that if they can get those things in order, then peace will follow. But Jesus teaches the opposite. True peace and provision come when we put God first.

In Matthew 6:33 Jesus said, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Most of us agree that God should come first, but often we treat Him as if He is last. We think, “When I am less busy, I will pray more.” Or, “When life slows down, I will spend time in the Bible.” We imagine that one day we will chase the kingdom of God more seriously, but for now we let other things take the top spot. The problem is that “eventually” never comes. Worry and busyness never leave. When we keep putting God at the end of the line, everything else feels heavier and emptier.

The Bible shows us what happens when people do seek God first.

Solomon was given the chance to ask God for anything. He could have asked for riches, long life, or power. Instead, he asked for wisdom to lead God’s people. Because he put God’s kingdom first, God not only gave him wisdom but also blessed him with wealth and honor (1 Kings 3:5–13).

The widow in Zarephath had only a little flour and oil left for one last meal. When God told her to feed the prophet Elijah first, she obeyed. As a result, her jar and jug never ran empty throughout the famine (1 Kings 17). By putting God’s command ahead of her own fear, her daily needs were met.

The disciples left their nets and their boats to follow Jesus. It was risky, but by seeking the kingdom first, God used them to spread the gospel and transform the world.

So how do we seek the kingdom first today? It begins with our priorities. Seeking God first means giving Him the first place in our time, our choices, and our hearts. It could be starting the day with prayer before checking our phones. It could be reading the Bible before chasing the news or social media. It could be choosing God’s way in relationships, work, and money instead of following our own desires.

Jesus promises that when we seek Him first, “all these things” will be added. That does not mean we will get everything we want, but it does mean we will have everything we need.

The truth is that the order matters. When we put God last, we find ourselves running in circles. But when we seek Him first, He puts everything else where it belongs.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by ACTS)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

Adoration: Lord You are holy and righteous. Your kingdom is everlasting, and I honor you as King over all.

Confession: Forgive me for the times I’ve chased my own desires instead of seeking You first.

Thanksgiving: Thank You for Your faithfulness and for the promise that when I put You first, You provide for all my needs.

Supplication: Help me to seek Your kingdom and righteousness each day. Give me wisdom to trust You and strength to live in a way that brings You glory.

In Jesus name, Amen
