📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion
Josiah was king at 8 years old (2 Chronicles 34:1). His father and grandfather had both been wicked rulers who led Judah into idolatry and sin, but Josiah chose a different path. Scripture says, “He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left” (2 Chronicles 34:2).
By sixteen he began to seek the Lord. At twenty he tore down idols throughout the land. At twenty six, when the Book of the Law was rediscovered in the temple, he humbled himself before God and led the people in revival. From the start of his reign until the end, Josiah was marked by a steady commitment to honor God even when the culture around him pushed in the opposite direction.
What makes his story so powerful is how unlikely it seems. An 8 year old is not supposed to know how to rule a kingdom. A young man with no positive family example is not supposed to grow into a godly leader. Yet Josiah shows that God can raise up anyone, in any circumstance, when the heart is turned toward Him. His age was never a limitation in God’s hands.
This lesson still speaks today. We often wait until we feel ready before we step into obedience. We tell ourselves that we are too young, too old, too inexperienced, or too ordinary to make a real difference. Josiah proves that obedience matters more than status or qualifications. He was not defined by his lack of age or his family’s failures. He was defined by his decision to seek God and to act on what he discovered.
Paul echoed this truth when he encouraged Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). Being young is not a weakness in the kingdom of God, and being older does not disqualify anyone from usefulness. What matters is a heart surrendered to Him.
Josiah’s life is a reminder that God looks for people who are willing to follow, no matter their age or position. If He could bring revival through an 8 year old king, He can certainly use you today. Faithfulness in your words, actions, and choices can shine light in dark places and lead others back to Him.
