Good Morning. You’ve heard the mustard seed line before. But here’s the twist: It doesn’t mean what most people think it means.

πŸ“– Verse Of The Day

β€œHe replied, β€˜Because you have so little faith. Truly, I tell you if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, β€˜Move from here to there, β€˜and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

β€” Matthew 17:20

🧠 Devotion

We often read this verse and think Jesus was lowering the bar, β€œyou only need a little faith and then miracles will happen.” But Jesus wasn’t giving us a motivational slogan. He was teaching us something deeper about what faith really is.

Here’s a picture. Imagine two people standing on a frozen lake in the middle of winter. One person has huge confidence in the ice. They stomp around, jump up and down, and say, β€œThis ice is solid, I’ll be fine.” The problem? They are standing on a thin patch. No matter how much faith they have, the ice breaks and they fall through.

Now picture another person, hesitant and nervous. They inch forward carefully, half-convinced the ice will crack beneath them. They don’t feel strong in their faith at all. But what they don’t realize is that they are standing on ten inches of rock-solid ice. Even though their faith feels small, they are completely safe.

That’s one side of the mustard seed lesson: it’s not the size of your faith that matters, it’s the object of it. Thin ice cannot hold you, no matter how confident you are. Solid ice can hold you, even if your trust is shaky. And God is infinitely stronger than the thickest ice.

But there’s another layer too. Jesus used the mustard seed in another parable to describe the kingdom of God (Matthew 13:31–32). The seed starts small, but it grows into a tree large enough for birds to rest in its branches. Faith works the same way. It may begin as something tiny, but when it’s real and planted in God, it grows stronger over time.

That means two things are true at once. Your small, fragile faith is enough, because it’s rooted in a powerful God. And if it’s genuine, it won’t stay small, it will grow, mature, and bear fruit as you continue to trust Him.

So stop measuring how β€œbig” your faith feels today. Instead, ask where it’s planted, and whether it’s alive and growing. Because even a mustard seed of faith in God can move what looks impossible, and over time, that seed becomes something far greater than you imagined.

πŸ™ Prayer (Guided by ACTS)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

  1. Adoration: God you are strong, and never fail.

  2. Confession: I admit that I often doubt and trust the wrong things.

  3. Thanksgiving: Thank you that my small faith is enough when it’s in You.

  4. Supplication: Help my faith grow and remind me to trust You more each day.

In Jesus name, Amen
