📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion
Everyone wants a sign.
We want to know that God is real, that He hears us, and that we’re doing what He wants. We ask for things like, “God, if this is what You want, show me.” It’s honest. It’s human. But sometimes, what feels like faith is really fear.
Gideon understood that tension. In Judges 6, Israel was being crushed by the Midianites. God told Gideon that He would use him to free His people. But Gideon didn’t believe it. He said, “If You are truly with me, give me a sign.” God had already spoken clearly, yet Gideon wanted something visible. So he laid out a fleece and asked for it to be wet while the ground stayed dry. God did it. Then Gideon asked again for the opposite — dry fleece, wet ground. God did that too.
That story doesn’t show a bold believer testing his faith. It shows a fearful man testing God’s patience. God answered, but not because Gideon’s doubt was good. He answered because He’s merciful. Even after the signs, Gideon’s courage didn’t come from the miracles. It came when he finally trusted what God had already said.
Centuries later, the religious leaders asked Jesus for the same thing: a sign. They said, “Show us a sign from heaven so we can believe.” But they had already seen miracles, healings, and power. They weren’t looking for truth — they were looking for control.
Jesus replied, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but none will be given except the sign of Jonah.” (Matthew 16:4)
That’s one of the strongest warnings in Scripture about chasing signs. The “sign of Jonah” refers to what happened to Jonah when he spent three days in the belly of a great fish before being brought back to life on the shore. Jesus used that story to point to His own death, burial, and resurrection three days later. That was the ultimate sign — proof that He is who He said He is.
When Jesus said no other sign would be given, He meant nothing else would ever compare. God already gave the clearest sign of His love and power through the resurrection. If that’s not enough to build our faith, nothing else will be.
It’s okay to want reassurance. God understands doubt. But faith doesn’t grow through constant signs; it grows through trust. The more we look for something new, the more we miss what God already revealed.
So when you find yourself asking God for a sign, remember Gideon’s fear and Jesus’ words. God already gave us the greatest proof we’ll ever need. The cross was the promise. The empty tomb was the sign.
Faith begins when you stop waiting for more.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by ACTS)
When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.
Adoration: God, You are faithful and steady when I doubt.
Confession: I admit I keep asking for signs instead of trusting what You’ve already said.
Thanksgiving: Thank you for Your patience and for proving Your love again and again.
Supplication: Help me trust You without needing more proof. Give me faith that listens and obeys.
In Jesus name, Amen
