📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion

Genesis chapter twenty two is one of the clearest pictures of trust in the entire Bible. God told Abraham to take his son Isaac to the mountain and offer him as a sacrifice. This command did not make sense from Abraham’s perspective. Isaac was the son God had promised him. Isaac was the one through whom God said He would build a great nation. Yet God told Abraham to go.

The important part of the story is not the command itself. The important part is Abraham’s response. Genesis chapter twenty two says that Abraham got up early the next morning and obeyed. He did not argue. He did not delay. He did not offer excuses. He simply trusted God, even though he did not understand how everything would work out.

As Abraham and Isaac walked up the mountain, Isaac asked a simple question. “Where is the lamb for the offering.” Abraham answered, “God will provide for Himself the lamb.” Abraham did not know how God would provide. He simply believed that God would keep His promise.

When Abraham lifted the knife, the angel of the Lord stopped him. God never intended for Isaac to die. God was testing Abraham’s faith, and Abraham showed that he trusted God fully. Then God provided a ram in the thicket. This is why the place was called “The Lord will provide.”

The New Testament gives even more insight. Hebrews chapter eleven says Abraham believed that God could even raise Isaac from the dead. Abraham trusted God so deeply that he believed no matter what happened on that mountain, God would keep His word.

The point of Genesis twenty two is not confusion or fear. The point is trust. The story teaches that God sometimes asks us to walk through situations that do not make sense from our point of view. We do not see the full picture. We do not understand the timing. We do not know the outcome. But God does.

Genesis twenty two teaches two simple truths:

First, God is faithful. He keeps His promises. He does not fail. Abraham learned this in the hardest moment of his life. God stopped him, protected Isaac, and provided exactly what was needed.

Second, obedience is a sign of real trust. Abraham did not understand what God was doing, but he obeyed anyway. His trust in God shaped his actions, even when the situation felt impossible.

Genesis twenty two is not about God taking things away. It is about God showing that He can be trusted with everything. God provided for Abraham, and He will provide for His people today. The same God who worked on that mountain is the same God who works in the lives of believers now.

When you do not understand what God is doing, remember Abraham. God sees the full story. God keeps His promises. And God always provides.

🙏 Prayer (Guided by ACTS)

When you’re not sure how to pray, A.C.T.S. gives you a simple path to follow: Adore, Confess, Thank, and Ask.

Adoration: God, You are faithful and You always provide exactly what is needed.

Confession: Forgive me for the times I struggle to trust You when I do not understand what You are doing.

Thanksgiving: Thank you for showing Your faithfulness to Abraham and for reminding us that You keep every promise.

Supplication: Help me walk in obedience and trust, even when the path is unclear, knowing You will provide.

In Jesus name, Amen
