📖 Verse Of The Day

🧠 Devotion

Most people imagine heaven, they think of clouds, harps, or people floating in white robes. But Scripture gives us a much clearer picture. Revelation 21 and 22 describe what eternity with God will truly be like.

The first truth is that heaven is not an escape from earth but a renewal of it. John writes, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea” (Revelation 21:1). God does not abandon His creation. He makes it new. Everything broken will be gone and replaced with perfection. The phrase “no sea” reminds us that in the new creation there will be no more chaos, danger, or separation from God.

At the center of this new creation is God’s presence. John says, “Look. God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God” (Revelation 21:3). The greatest joy of heaven is not golden streets or pearly gates. The greatest joy is that we will live with God and see Him face to face.

Revelation also tells us what will be absent. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” (Revelation 21:4). The old order of things will be gone. In the new creation there will be no grief, no sickness, and no sin. All the things that weigh us down now will no longer exist.

The vision of heaven continues with striking imagery. John describes walls made of jasper, a city of pure gold, and gates of pearl. The city shines with God’s glory. “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp” (Revelation 21:23). There will be no night, no darkness, only the brilliance of God’s presence filling everything.

Revelation 22 shows us the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. Beside it stands the tree of life, bearing fruit every month, with leaves for the healing of the nations. This takes us back to Eden, but greater, because sin will never again enter. Humanity will live in perfect fellowship with God, restored forever.

The Bible’s description of heaven is not vague or symbolic guesswork. It is specific and sure. A new heaven and a new earth. God dwelling with His people. No more pain or death. A radiant city filled with beauty, light, and life. The river and the tree of life at the center. Worship that never ends. That is the future promised to everyone who belongs to Christ.

So when you think of heaven, do not imagine clouds and harps. Imagine a renewed world filled with God’s glory, where everything broken is made whole and where God Himself dwells with His people forever. That is the hope before us.
